b is helping her sister move from Oahu to Florida (driving) so I am a one-month bachelor. My first project - getting my motorcycle running right again. Last Fall I neglected winterizing it properly (no fuel stabilizer) and this Spring it stalled and hesitated when I opened the throttle. It did start, and run at low throttle (less than 1/4) and a quick web search revealed the problem was a "gunk in the jets". So I taught myself how to disassemble and clean a carburetor. Below is my carburetor-

Key to disassembling, cleaning and reassembling a working carburetor are 1) a shop manual for your bike (not an owner's manual), 2) carb cleaner (with drip tray) from any auto-parts store, and 3) a tub of heavy duty hand cleaner.

Along the way I had to take the carburetor to a real mechanic to get a couple stuck screws out. He congratulated me on not completely mangling them before bringing it in, and removed them for me for free. I also bought an impact wrench which I never figured out how to use (and is incidentally exactly what the mechanic used to get my stuck screws out). Today, after multiple reassemblings, I got my throttle back. It was great. I rewarded myself with a steak and some homebrew. Ar ar argh.
