Backslide

A recent head cold gave me a two week hiatus from running.  Today I went out, not pushing it, and ran a 29:30 5k.  That is 5min off the pace I was running before.  Stupid cold.

On the plus side, I got a GPS runner's watch with my REI dividend, which works great.  A Timex marathon, it calculates distance, and mile/km split times.  It turns out my 5k route is 10 meters short of 5k - nice to know exactly.  I am more excited for longer runs which cut through parks, where I can't get exact distances from google maps.

Whenever I'm doing a training run, I always run significantly slower than in a race. It doesn't matter if I go out with the idea that I'm going to run at a racing pace, I still run it at a 10 min/mile pace.
