Surfwax

This post will be fairly scattered. I suppose the theme could be called eye candy, except that I don't like the baggage that this phrase carries with respect to gender relations. What I would like to say is that herein lies some treats for the bored webrowser, for which I will coin the term surfwax (because it is supposed to make it easier for one to surf). Pass it on. If it catches on we can call it a meme (new to my vocabulary).

First, enjoy this picture, not from a Keanu Reeves movie, but actually of the capital of Saudi Arabia (bonus points if you know this capital)
Ok the answer is Riyadh. Also I find it interesting that Ted Theodore Logan, time traveling buddy of Bill S. Preston esq., is a modern archetype (oxymoron or misuse?) of the action hero. What happened to Bruce Lee, Arnold Schwartzeneger, Van Damme, or at least Bruce Willis. Personally I am buying a ticket to your movie regardless of quality or content if it stars Bruce Campbell or plays the Rocky music, so perhaps I ought not complain about the quality of todays' movies.

Today I spoke with a fellow Calc III instructor, and he mentioned that his students averaged a 40 on the exam. Mine averaged a 68. There are at least three variables here, the choice of exam problems (4 from a pool of 12), the strictness of the grading, and the quality of instruction. After our conversation I immediately made some conclusions about the later two. Then I reflected on an excellent XKCD . Recently I have been telling people how for my next teaching statement I will include information about where my teaching evaluations lie in terms of the mean and standard deviations etc., so that people who didn't read this XKCD will be convinced I deserve a job.

Also, the Tribune featured a hotel in Milwaukee that has me dreaming of motorcycles again.

Above is a picture of the entrance to this hotel. It is a luxury hotel which caters to bikers. Awesome idea. The Iron Horse would be a three-hour trip for me, mostly along Lake Michigan, with an obvious break near Illinois Beach State park for lunch/and or camping (I have fond memories of this park so I am already psyched for such a trip).

I want to finish this post with something witty about being a cowboy who rides a steel horse, or how you can take your car to work and I take my bike, or something. But who really listens to Bon Jovi and Weezer anymore anyway (except dorks like me).

I listen to them as well, and no I wasn't referring to DogStar.
